The Connected Car

The Connected Car

The Connected Car now has over 100M lines of code. Embedded Software is now deeply integrated into everything from the engine to the tires, and with it comes software updates. Software failures are now estimated to account for nearly 15% of all recalls. These updates directly translate into time and effort in the dealership, but with the proper IT Infrastructure, your dealership can be prepared.

DEALERSHIP IT FOR THE CONNECTED CAR

1) SOFTWARE UPDATES

Infotainment systems are often the number one module requiring software updates before providing the vehicle to the end customer. Unfortunately, these updates often take hours and require a technician to be present to manually update each vehicle either through the OBDII or USB port. However, more and more OEM’s are adopting Wi-Fi updates. With proper Wi-Fi coverage in your dealership lot, vehicles can be updated by simply connecting them to your Wi-Fi network.

2) DIAGNOSTICS & TROUBLESHOOTING

Reducing service time is a key factor for every dealership. A key area of opportunity is diagnosing the problem. Many vehicles today offer the ability to retrieve DTC’s and generate vehicle diagnostic reports wirelessly without ever having to connect to an OBDII scanner. By creating a secure wireless network in the service bay for vehicles, a vehicle report can be generated from the office and provided instantly to the customer.

3) DEALERSHIP CYBERSECURITY

The Connected Car isn’t the only aspect of Dealership IT either. Recently there has been a large increase in the number of cyber-attacks directly against dealerships. As a result, millions of customers’ information has now been leaked online. Having an up-to-date office infrastructure is key to preventing these attacks. This means up-to-date Anti-Virus and Firewalls, the latest PC and Network security patches, and the most recent software updates from programs you use every day like Microsoft Office and Outlook.
